It then goes through a small tunnel and enters the vertical loop. This is followed by a zero-g roll and "Fly-to-Lie" element that turns riders from a face-down prone position to a face-up lying position. The train then drops, reaching a top speed of 55 mph (89 km/h) before entering an overbanked turn. The train travels out of the station and up the 131.3-foot (40.0 m) lift hill. After the train is fully locked and checked, the trains are raised into the flying position and depart the station. At the ankles, two flaps hold the legs in position and close as the harness is locked in place. Riders are restrained through a padded over-the-shoulder harness and a lap bar. Once in the station, riders of Sky Scrapper board a train sitting down, in a similar style to inverted roller coasters. Experience Ī train in the loading position (left) and flying position (right) Station and loading As of August 2013, Sky Scrapper is the only Bolliger & Mabillard Flying Coaster to feature a vertical loop, and is one of only two to feature a zero-g roll. A "Lie to Fly" element is when riders are on their backs, facing the sky and they are flipped and face the ground. These include a zero-g roll, a vertical loop, a "Lie to Fly"/"Fly to Lie" pair, and two inline twists. Sky Scrapper features a total of five inversions, which ties it with The Flying Dinosaur for the most inversions on a B&M Flying Coaster model. Each train has seven cars that seat four riders in a single row, for a total of 28 riders per train. Sky Scrapper operates with two steel and fiberglass trains. The roller coaster's steel track is approximately 2,805 feet (855 m) in length and the height of the lift is 131.3 feet (40.0 m). The park is derived from the World of Warcraft and StarCraft franchises. The ride is located in the Universe of Starship area of the park. The park opened with the custom-designed Sky Scrapper, a Flying Coaster model from Bolliger & Mabillard. World Joyland officially opened to the public on April 4, 2011. Designed by Swiss firm Bolliger & Mabillard, Sky Scrapper restrains riders in the prone position and features five inversions. Sky Scrapper was one of World Joyland's opening day attractions, officially opening on April 30, 2011. Sky Scrapper (also known as Stary Sky Riper) is a flying roller coaster at World Joyland in Wujin, Changzhou, Jiangsu, China. Riders are arranged 4 across in a single row for a total of 28 riders per train. Construction work could begin next yearĬonstruction work is due to begin in 2015 ahead of the planned 2016 debut, but we’ll have to wait and see whether such an unusual and groundbreaking project can really meet those targets. The lift hill and zero-g roll of Sky Scrapperģ1☂9′51″N 120☀2′28″E / 31.4975°N 120.0411☎ / 31.4975 120.0411Ģ trains with 7 cars. The Skyscraper’s developers estimate that ticket prices will be less than $20 – quite a lot for a single ride, but not prohibitively expensive. In addition to housing a 360-degree video sign at the top, the entire structure - including the coaster's track and trains - will be able to light up in the darkness. The original concept artwork for the Poler Coaster showed that it will be highly visible at night, and we expect that to be true of the Skyscraper installation. A 55-story glass elevator will carry guests to an observation deck, where they'll be able to enjoy stunning views for miles around. For those who find the experience a bit too terrifying, though, there'll be an alternative method of reaching the top. The main attraction on the Polercoaster is, of course, the roller coaster itself. A minimum height restriction of 48 inches will be enforced. Each train will boast two rows of four seats each, allowing for eight riders per train and a theoretical capacity of 1,000 riders per hour. The ride will last around three minutes, with the circuit being some 5,200 feet long. It’ll be a reasonably length experience, though. Indeed, the Skyscraper’s top speed is less than half that (149 miles per hour) of Formula Rossa, the worlds’ fastest coaster. Although this is pretty fast, the ride’s design – with its many twists and turns – means that riders will never hit the top speeds associated with the world’s fastest coasters. The top speed of the Skyscraper coaster will be around 65 miles per hour. It’ll be the tallest – but not the fastest
